Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying,
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand;
repent and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:14-15
The call of Christ is a call to repentance. To repent is to turn completely away from one way of life in order to follow another. This means that repentance is by its very nature a decisive change in the direction of a person’s life. As we continue exploring the Biblical motivations for prayer and fasting as part of our 40 Days focus, our theme for this week is repentance. We’ll begin by turning away from all other cares and distractions by turning the attention of our hearts toward the Lord in song with Come Thou Fount Come Thou King. Then, together we will read words of confession and repentance from Psalm 32, leading us to respond with a desire to “repent and believe in the gospel” as we sing Yet Not I, But Through Christ in Me.
Following a special Kids’ Time with Marcia Jarrett, Pastor Andrew will dig deeper into the theme of repentance with his message from Joel 2:1-17. We‘ll respond together in prayer and in song with His Mercy Is More. Concluding our time of worship will be a prayer for our Giving and a Benediction. As always, tell us how we can be praying for you. Send your prayers requests to:prayer@meadowsfamily.org.
As you prepare your heart and mind for worship, I pray that the Scripture and songs above would help you to repent and believe in the gospel ever more deeply as you seek to follow Christ this week. Remember that attendance is limited at our in-person services right now, so you must register if you’d like to attend.
