I just followed this author because I saw him recommended on a list of good, active authors to follow in a blog. When I checked my library to see if I owned anything that he'd written, I saw a few books that I hope to dig into or get info from through one of the guides one day. I saw course which I want to eventually take. Then I saw Truth Matters listed. Truth Matters has a special place in more than one of my libraries, because I am one of the migrating Wordsearch users, and I purchased it back when there was a special on getting the book along with getting the digital Wordsearch version. Infact, I bought more than one copy, if I remember correctly, and gave one away. It's a short, useful, read, and gives a good quick overview of several reasons why there is decent grounds to believe that the testimony of the scriptures is very accurate. It does at times seem to be written to Bart Erhman (however he's spelled). I didn't know who he was when I read the book. I've run across his thoughts and youtube videos on the internet since then though, and can appreciate why the author took some time to specifically address him and some of his ideas by name. Anyway, I'm glad that I have Truth Matters, and looking forward to exploring the rest of the Logos resources I have from this author.
- Hi Mark Anthony Cerasaro, thanks for this post. I agree with your assessment of Bart Ehrman, he has been an influential force for confusion and doubt among college students and readers of his books, so it's good that Bock has taken on Ehrman's arguments directly. Someone that often engages with Ehrman on scriptural matters is Michael J. Kruger, who blogs at Canon Fodder. I really like his stuff. I believe my wife has a copy of Truth Matters here in the house somewhere, I'll have to see if I can find it. I was confused by the Logos offerings for the book, since there seemed to be two of them, but then I noticed that one was unavailable for purchase, the other is in development. I believe I will pre-order it, now that you've made me aware of it. Happy New Year!
