Sunday Follow-Up - Read, Listen, Follow, Pray
Throughout this week, there are a couple of things I'll try to follow-up on from Sunday's sermon. I have heard feedback from several of you and I hope we are starting a robust conversation about some of the issues around race. Let's keep our Bibles open and continue to remember that we are united in Christ, affirming one another in all that means.
I encourage you to do four things in response to Sunday...
Read, Listen, Follow, and Pray.
READ - Here is a currated list of books and other short readings. This is not exhaustive but a good place to start.
Books
For an introduction to racial reconciliation in the Church:
Be the Bridge by Latasha Morrison
For a stark look at the American church’s racist history:
The Color of Compromise by Jemar Tisby
For a personal narrative:
I'm Still Here by Austin Channing Brown
The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois
Short reads
MLK’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail
Confessions Of An Accidentally Racially Blind Pastor
White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack

Pray - While the issue of race in America tends to be between black and white, we have an opportunity to step toward a broader picture of the kingdom by prayerfully exploring a deeper partnership with the Chinese Church.
Please pray for:
- growing love and unity between our congregations
- courageous, obedient hearts to work through the challenges with gentleness and patience
- a shared vision of unity for the sake of the kingdom
- the right pace to move forward
