Psalm 90:17 CSB "Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish for us the work of our hands- establish the work of our hands!"
Moses reminds the Israelites that 1000 years before God's eyes are like a day passing by as night falls (Psalm 90:4). However, our days are numbered to seventy years or eighty if we are strong (90:10). Throughout all our life, God knows all the bad things about us. Nevertheless, God loves us (90:8). This includes wasted time and a wasted life (90:10-12).
Moses asks God to teach us to realize how short life on earth really is so that we grow in wisdom (90:12). Jesus teaches us: "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth . . . But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; where your treasure is, there your heart will also be" (Matthew 6:19–21). We should pause this morning and ask ourselves, "What do I want to be remembered for and see happen before I leave this earth?" "What do I need to change this morning so I can accomplish God's purpose for me?"
Dear gracious heavenly Father, thank you for placing within my being a desire to see my work established and to have a purpose in life (Ecclesiastes 3:11; Psalm 90:13–17). Lord Jesus, reveal your plan to me. Lord, help me begin today using my efforts for works of permanence. Thank you, Jesus, when you make me unsatisfied with the temporary imperfections of this earth. Then I can ask, "what is effective and productive for accomplishing eternal works to be stored in heaven?" Lord, only you know how many days I have left. Help me use each day according to your earthly purpose for me: "Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish for us the work of our hands- establish the work of our hands!" In Jesus' name, amen.
