Hi there. I'm taking a crack at this course, hoping to see it through to certification. I took a Greek Language Tools course in seminary that used Mounce's "Greek for the Rest of Us" textbook. I'm hoping to get established with something more robust and move on to legitimate exegesis and regular reading. Has anyone compared this content with Mounce's BBG videos/Textbook? I started that a while back and lost steam after about six chapters. Looking forward to some interaction here.

Mounce's Greek for the Rest of Us seems to be more like LA181, where you learn to use tools that support your study. This leaves you with dependency on technology. This GK 101 is a full blown language comprehension program where you end up memoring something like 400 words in the New Testament, allowing you to pick up a UBS or Tyndale reader's edition and actually be able to do your daily bible study on paper. If you went through some of the videos on Mounce's "Greek for the Rest of Us" or the audio, you'll notice that they use Erasmian pronunciation instead of Koine. Good luck, brother this is difficult. I definitely recommend going through the GK091 Koine course first (which is required for certification). My gift to self was a Greek New Testament and I am loving to look at it after every new unit to see what new words I can understand!!!! There is nothing like actually touching and feeling a real Greek New Testament, so I'd definitely encourage you to pick one up as you go along just so that you start feeling what you're gong for and can keep the end in sight.- Way to go!
