This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.
(1 Timothy 1:15–16).
Paul reminds us that Christ came into the world to save SINNERS. That doesn't seem significant until you look around and see the many people who sound like Christ came into the world to save the good people. (According to the Bible, there are NO good people).
As we embrace this truth it results in at least three things. First, it brings humility into our lives. We realize anew that we are given a gift. We have not earned salvation! Jesus earned it for us!
Second, we will stop looking past people. There are some people we believe are outside the reach of the gospel (wrongly). We dismiss them because of the sin in their lives. Christ came for these very people! Jesus said He came for the lost.
Finally, when we realize Christ came for sinners . . . and we are sinners . . . then we will stop celebrating what good people we are, and begin truly worshipping the Lord. We will glorify HIS name rather than point to our lives, our ministry, our church. He deserves the glory for our salvation because we are sinners He has snatched from the fire! Praise His Name!
