Those who speak for themselves want glory only for themselves, but a person who seeks to honor the one who sent him speaks truth, not lies. (John 7:18).
This is a corrective for those who witness and those who stand up and preach . . . if our primary concern is being liked, looking cool, or "tickling the ears" of those who listen, we are not seeking God's glory but ours.
If on the other hand we carefully share the truth of the gospel and speak words of love, we are seeking the glory of God. Sometimes the Word of God will offend. This is because it is more concerned with telling us the truth than soothing our fragile ego. It is like a Doctor who speaks to you truthfully about your situation rather than just telling you what you want to hear.
