Matthew 10:16-25 -- This sounds so like the culture we are living in today. People turning against friends and even family. One court case after another, all in an attempt to slander or de-legitimize ones views or values. Persecution the likes of which we only hear small pieces of. Christ's teachings and the doctrine that the church was to be built on; tossed aside like a filthy rage.
Is this what Jesus meant when He said (vs 22) “You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved." I believe so church. Never has hatred for Christianity been more in our faces. I saw a news report where a pastor was shot for trying to help someone who's home was on fire. This type of thing is happening not halfway around the world; it's here in the United States. Church congregations being brutally attacked; simply for holding a worship service. Where the law has no jurisdiction -- the only law is what I want and how I want it. Sounds like something out of an old western movie doesn't it -- but it's here and it's now. So what's the answer?
Keep Going!!!! Jesus says in verse 23; "But whenever they persecute you in one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes." We are called to continue to carry the GOSPEL; we are called to not give up hope; we are called to suffer. Why? Because we are disciples of Christ and "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his master." (vs 24) Christ suffered for us and we are called to suffer for the message of Christ. If they called Jesus (satan) how much more will they do to us that follow Him?
So while yes, this passage was written to the early church, it is also written for us -- the church today. It's here, in your city, in your backyard -- it's here and it's going to get worse. The question is; How will you respond? I think verses 19 and 20 say it best; “But when they hand you over, do not worry about how or what you are to say; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to say. 20 “For it is not you who speaks, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you." May to be so with you and I.
God Bless you my friends
