Jeremiah 23:5-6 [written poetically]
"Behold, the days are coming," says the Lord,
That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
A King shall reign and prosper
and execute judgement and righteousness in the earth.
In His days Judah will be saved and Israel will dwell safely;
Now this will be His name by which He will be called:
THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
This isn't the first or only time Jesus is referred to as a "Righteous Branch." It's a term also used in Isaiah 4:2; and Zech 3:8, and 6:12. It refers to Jesus being THE righteous branch off of the tree trunk of King David.
How is this important? Because Jesus had to be of the lineage of David (Isaiah 9:6-7), and that is the reason the beginning of Matthew recounts the lineage of Jesus and calls Him "the Son of David in Matt 1:1.
Jesus was literally born a King.
