And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. Ephesians 2:1-3
To know the vast dimensions of the grace of God. We must know the depths of our own sin. Jesus said the same. Our debt was more than we could ever repay. For some we find this obvious. We remember how lives outside of Christ and Paul’s description fits perfectly. That’s me. I lived for my own desires and passions. Maybe you have grown up knowing Jesus. Praise God for that. But you can imagine what life would have been like if you weren’t born into a Christian family.
But we also need to remember this is currently true of everyone outside of Christ. If they aren’t following Christ, they are following the prince of the power of the air. They are children of wrath because of their rebellion. How desperately they need the grace of God.
