One of the things I love about this season is the tradition of singing Christmas songs again. There are times that I wonder why we only sing some of these great songs once a year. Then again, singing them once a year creates a cherished tradition that I look forward to every Advent season. There are some songs that I only learned when I moved to Minneapolis, like O Come, O Come Emmanuel. Other songs have been dear to my heart for a long, long time. One of them comes from an old-school Kirk Franklin and the Family Christmas album from way back in the year of our Lord 1995 😊. It is called Jesus is the Reason For the Season, and to this day, it still hits, of course, in a nineties way! Hear it for yourself and see what I am saying. It’s going to get some of y'all moving and clapping! For my other dance disinclined folks, feel free to tap your foot to it 😉. The song’s title aligns with what we have been saying about the Advent season. Jesus is the reason for this season, and on Sunday, we saw yet another aspect of his beautiful person. Jesus is the Son of Man in his humility and exaltation. He is the Son of man in his humanity and exaltation for us. As gifts get torn into next week, all of them should point to the greatest gift given to us in the person and work of Jesus. Jesus as the Son of Man provides us with the present of his humble incarnation and the gift of his exalted status who rules and reigns. We rightly say, “Merry Christmas!” This week, set some time apart and reflect on this inexpressible gift given to us in Jesus the Son of Man. As you reflect, prepare your heart for this upcoming Sunday where, Lord willing, we will wrap up our Advent Series on Jesus the unique Son. Jesus as Son, just like Jesus as the Son of Man, is a jaw-dropping gift that reminds us afresh that he is the reason for this Advent season!
