Advent is for looking, and looking is for running. For the past four weeks, we have sought to look at the beauty of our King through his four titles. Jesus, our King, is the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Son of David, and the Unique Son. It is safe to say that there is no other person like Jesus the Christ. He is the best gift we could ever receive, so as we celebrate Christmas in two days, may it be as those who are stunned at who and what we have been given in Jesus. Let each gift given and each gift received be a soul-sustaining reminder that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son. Thank God for his indescribable gift (2 Cor 9:15)!
Advent is not just for looking back. Advent is also for our sight today. Jesus today is still the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Son of David, and the unique Son. Everything wrapped up in these four titles is who and what Jesus is for us, through the many shades of the Christmas season, whether bright colors of joy, dark hues of sorrow, and every shade in between. Jesus is not only the best gift we have received. He is also the best gift we enjoy and entrust our souls to today and tomorrow. In these four titles, Jesus helps us run the race set before us. So on Christmas, family, look to Jesus to run faithfully.
Advent is not just for looking back. Advent is also not just for our sight today. Advent is for our gaze tomorrow. As we celebrate Christmas and then close 2021 out, what, or better stated, who will be our hope in the uncertainties of 2022? The uncertainties of 2022 bow its knee to the rock-solid certainties of Jesus the Son of God, the Son of Man, the Son of David, and the unique Son. Come what may, we will run our race to come because we look to the one who is coming back.
It's been a joy to look at our King together during this Advent season. As we look to worship tomorrow at our Christmas Eve Service, pray for one another. Pray that we would continue to see the beauty of our King, and in seeing, we savor and strive in the race set before us.
