- Insight from Butler's Daily Bible Reading: Philippians 3—Perspective. Paul gives perspective in three areas. •Flesh: the warning against the flesh (fleshly deeds are to be avoided); the worthlessness of the flesh (Paul cites his fleshly achievements and says how worthless they were compared to Christ). •Faith: the desire of faith (knowledge, power, fellowship of Christ); the dedication of faith (“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” [v. 14]). •Followers: involves who to follow (Paul); who not to follow (enemies of the Gospel and those given to fleshly appetites); why to follow (citizenship is in heaven, and changes of body in future to that like Christ’s).
