- Thank You Abba for the gift of Your forgiveness! You desire a totally honest and open relationship with me, hallelujah! May my heart, mind and soul always acknowledge that Your ways are always perfect and righteous, that mine are not: this is the heart of my confession. Thank You for Your forgiveness and Grace! I love You!
David's Folly: Forgiveness
2 Samuel 12:7-9, 13
Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave your master’s house to you, and your master’s wives into your arms. I gave you all Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes?
Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”
Nathan replied, “The Lord has taken away your sin.
Thought for Today
When God pointed out David to Samuel from among his brothers to be anointed king He said that what set David apart was his heart. God declared that David was a man after His own heart. We see that heart on full display at the end of the worst period in David’s life. After an extensive cover up of his sin David discovers that the only person he hasn’t fooled is God. That realization breaks his heart. Rather than fighting further David surrenders and confesses his sin. This is what so many others had failed to do. When Saul’s sin was uncovered he made excuses. David makes no excuse; offers no explanation; gives no rationale. David falls down before the Lord and admits what he has done. This is all God wanted from David. As soon as David speaks the word God declares through Nathan that He has taken away David’s sin. What more could any of us hope for? The wonderful news is that God offers it to you today with the same open heart that He offered to David. He already knows all about it. He is not looking for information or explanation; He is looking for admission and confession. When He hears it He offers forgiveness. May God bless you this weekend as you come before Him in openness and receive the blessing of His forgiveness anew.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, my sin may be different, but I confess that I am no better than David was before You. Blot out my transgressions and forgive my sin that I may be always right with You. Amen.
