Chapel started as usual this morning. It's Holy week so we're gathering on Maundy Thursday rather than Wednesday. We take out the hymnals and sing "This is the Day". Pastor Chris asks for volunteers to come up to the front to help with something and everyone raises their hand. He chooses a few kids and then brings out a bowl full of water and a towel. He tells the kids to take off their shoes so he can wash their feet. Wait, what?! Yep, on Maundy Thursday we remember the last supper where Jesus washed His disciple's feet. The kids giggle as Pastor Chris washes. One of the older kids plays along, he knows the story well; he says "but I should be washing your feet Pastor Chris". Later, when Mrs. Wert reads John 13 we hear how Simon Peter said the same thing to Jesus. Jesus responds that unless he washes Peter's feet, Peter will have no part in His ministry. Pastor Chris goes on to explain that Jesus was preparing His disciples to go through the challenges that were coming in the next few days. He wants His disciples to know that He loves them very much! From His example we know that our job as Christians in the world today is to love and serve others.
