“And [I pray] that the eyes of your heart [the very center and core of your being] may be enlightened [flooded with light by the Holy Spirit], so that you will know and cherish the [h]hope [the divine guarantee, the confident expectation] to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the [i]saints (God’s people), 19and [so that you will begin to know] what the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His [active, spiritual] power is in us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of His mighty strength “
Ephesians 1:18-19 AMP
Did you know that when your car is parked in front of your house it still has the same power and energy that it exhibits when traveling on the highway? Just because the engine isn’t running doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have the power. All it needs is the key to turn it on and the gas to make it go! That truth can be applied to the power of the Holy Spirit residing in us! In fact, the Apostle prayed that the church at Ephesus would realize that fact and move out!
The Spirit indwelling the believer’s body is the reserve of our supernatural powers. Notice that Paul told the believers that the power of the Spirit was from God, not of themselves and it is “immeasurable and unlimited!” We may not use the power source, but the fact is that it is always there! It is interesting that the Apostle prayed that they would “begin to know” the power of God. When we receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior the Holy Spirit indwells us and baptizes us into the body of Christ. This is the moment that we change our citizenship from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Light. There is however a moment of realization that this power of God is available to us to equip us for Spiritual victory! Jesus instructed the disciples to wait for the baptism and empowering of the Holy Spirit.
“So when they had come together, they asked Him repeatedly, “Lord, are You at this time reestablishing the kingdom and restoring it to Israel?” 7He said to them, “It is not for you to know the times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority. 8But you will receive power and ability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses [to tell people about Me] both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth.” Acts 2:6-8 AMP
The disciples had already received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit when Jesus breathed on them,
“And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” John 20:22 AMP
It would be hard to imagine that they did not receive the Holy Spirit in them at the command of Jesus, yet He tells them to go and wait for another experience. We see then at Pentecost the disciples experienced the “overflowing” of the power of the Holy Spirit in the life of the disciples. It was all the disciples that received this overflowing power in their lives, not just the Apostles. When the Saul (the Apostle Paul) was blinded by the light of Jesus, it was Ananias that God called to go and lay hands on him to receive his sight and the gift of the Hoy Spirit!
“And the Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the street called Straight, and ask at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul; for he is praying [there], 12and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come in and place his hands on him, so that he may regain his sight.” Acts 9:11-12 AMP
My friends, the same power that raised Christ from the dead now dwells in you! Are you moving in it? Is it changing your life and the lives of those around you? I encourage you today to actively seek out the power of the Holy Spirit so that you may be ready in season and out to give a demonstration of the power of God!
Have a blessed day, Pastor Ken
I was to travel to Malawi today for a week of visiting the churches and ministry to the Pastors there. Yesterday there was an issue at my work, and I must delay my departure until Thursday. Please keep this trip in your prayers. The enemy is doing everything he can to stop it! I have news for him…WE WIN!
