At Home Weekly // Summer Week 4 // June 26 - July 2
At Home Weekly is designed for you to use during the week with your son or daughter. You’ll find out what they learned today at church, and can help them prepare for next week by exploring the theme (or Ponder Point) and spending time together in God’s Word.
What we Learned this week
PONDER POINT: THE LORD WHO HEALS
Peter and Tabitha
Acts 9:36–42
A follower of Jesus named Tabitha served others by doing good deeds, including making clothes for those in need. God used Peter to raise Tabitha from the dead and show that Jesus is the Lord who heals.
Where We’re Headed Next time
PONDER POINT: GOD’S SPIRIT EQUIPS
Paul and Barnabas
Acts 13:1–3 14:1–22
Paul and Barnabas were two of the first missionaries. God specifically called and equipped them to share the good news of Jesus Christ in new places. In Lystra, the Holy Spirit empowered them to miraculously heal a crippled man. Because of the miracle, Paul and Barnabas were mistaken for pagan gods in human form and narrowly stopped a crowd from sacrificing to them. Once the confusion was cleared up, the fickle crowd turned and stoned Paul almost to death. But God supernaturally equipped Paul to recover from his beating and equipped him with courage to continue in ministry.
Did you know?
Share these facts to get the conversation started.
• When the church at Antioch began, the Jerusalem church sent Barnabas to lead and mentor the new believers. In turn, Barnabas asked Paul to come and minister with him.
• Acts 13:2–3 tells us that the Holy Spirit himself chose Paul and Barnabas as missionaries. After fasting and prayer, the men were prayed over and sent on their first missions trip together.
• Barnabas and Paul were equipped by the Holy Spirit to reach both Jews and Gentiles with the good news of Jesus.
Connect as a family
With your family, read Acts 14:8–20 (*Fire Bible, p. 1371) about Paul and Barna-bas at Lystra. Then read the passage a second time, this time slowly narrating as your child acts out the story (pretending to be the crippled man, pretending to be Paul and Barnabas acting surprised and then shocked about the crowd trying to worship them, Paul pretending to be wounded and then healed, etc.).
After reading the Scripture passage, discuss these questions together:
• If you could take a missionary journey anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
• Do we know any people who don’t know Jesus? Who are they?
• How might we share the good news of Jesus with those people?
These questions can easily extend into the rest of the week. Look for opportunities to bring conversations about how God’s Spirit equips into your everyday life as a family.
Remember verse REVIEW
This week, pause and review the Remember Verse your child has learned in the past few weeks.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8
BLESSING
Blessings are often used in the Bible. A blessing can be a prayer of commission, a portion of Scripture, or words to encourage and guide.
A blessing to pray over your child:
(Child’s name), may you trust in our great God, who blesses us with so many things. He loves you, protects you, and rejoices over you. May He bless you greatly this week!
