This week I heard something that has resonated with me as I have been preparing for this upcoming ministry/school year.
“Circumstances are central to our call, not a reason to run from our call. Can we therefore embrace the circumstances that God has placed us in? Are we ok with a god who calls us to do hard things?”
Oof right? Sometimes we forget that we are placed at this exact moment in time in this exact place in time for a reason. God could have called us anywhere but he decided to place us right where we are. Do you know why?
I challenge you to start reflecting and asking the Holy Spirit to reveal to you this answer. If the circumstance you’re in is hard, what is God revealing? If the circumstance is easy, what blessings are you receiving? If the circumstance isn’t what you wanted, how can you learn and grow through it?
Our circumstances are essential for kingdom work. Whether we want to admit it or not, God can and will use ALL to further and glorify his kingdom. Instead of running from that or trying to change it, how can we embrace our circumstance and lean into God’s sovereignty?
God will call us to hard things, God will require us to do hard work, but God will never leave us nor forsake us in the middle of the hard. He doesn’t shove us into a storm and then wait on the other side until we come out a better person, he gently walks with us right into the storm and stays by our side the entire way through. But are we looking for him? Or do we only notice the storm?
Look around you, what are your circumstances that you would be tempted to run from? How is God using them? What do you notice?

“Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your
Righteousness as the light,
And your justice as the noonday.
Be still before the Lord and wait
Patiently for him;
Fret not yourself over the one who
Prospers in his way,
Over the man who carries out evil devices!”
-Psalm 37:5-7
