Christology and soteriology form such a seamless garment in
Luther's thought that salvation is found only in Jesus Christ. Ths
explains why Luther stresses in hs SmalcaldArtich that the "one article
on which the church stands or falls" is not the doctrine of justification,
but the "dear article on Jesus Christ." Driven by the soteriological
relevance of the person of Jesus Christ, Luther claims that "Christology
is the subject of theology.'"
