Dear Church Family,
Our brother David Carter died last night in the hospital in Statesboro. Pastor Sam and I were able to spend time with David, praying with him and reading from the Scriptures. He was sedated and on a ventilator, but we trust that the Lord provided the comfort David needed that he might die peacefully in Christ in his final hour. He was removed from life support and died without incident. His daughter was present and his son was on the phone, and now we trust that our dear brother is at home with the Lord. Please pray for the family and for one another. One of the unfortunate realities of the past year is that we have not been able to see some of our members as regularly as we want. David’s health was declining and he was unable to do much outside his home in addition to the added concerns of COVID. He eventually had a GI bleed, a clot in his lung, and developed pneumonia. His presence in our midst at church will be missed. I thought yesterday about the time I was able to spend with David, and especially the conversations we had prior to having the privilege of baptizing him just a few years ago. He loved our church dearly, and his children both said he was always talking about us and how much he missed being with us in the past few months. He never had a doubt that we loved and cared for him as his church family, and we certainly did. We have great trust in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and so we rest in God’s providence, albeit with tears and sadness.
As soon as funeral arrangements are made, we will let you know.Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing,
