Proverbs 31:30–31 NIV Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.PrayerI didn’t get to grow up with my Mom until a little later on in life. Now, we talk much more than we used to. When your little and Moms are doing their Mom things, its annoying and embarrassing. You don’t want to hang out with them, you want to go be free and do stuff. But man when you get older, you really find out all your Mom did for you, because Mom’s and those wanting to be Moms and those who are Moms to other people's kids, you are all awesome! Just like moms from the Bible.Bible MomsA. Mother of Moses (Jochebed)Exodus 2:1–10 NIV Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him. Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This is one of the Hebrew babies,” she said. Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” “Yes, go,” she answered. So the girl went and got the baby’s mother. Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.” So the woman took the baby and nursed him. When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, “I drew him out of the water.”1. Feared GodExodus 1:15–17 NIV The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, “When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.” The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live.a. Saved the Childrenb. Did what was necessary for her soni. Tore at her heartii. His life was more important than her happinessc. Even weened him for another womand. God honored these womenExodus 1:20–21 NIV So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.i. See what Moses didB. Mother of James and JohnMatthew 20:20–21 NIV Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”1. Wanted the best for thema. Her love for her kidsb. Nothing less will doc. Losing to ask the Lordi. No doubt what she wantedii. She was bold in her requestiii. Can’t imagine what James and John thoughtSaint embarrassed by his Mom when she shows affection or pushes for the best for Saint. They may not appreciate it, but when they grow up they will come to understand and love you for it.2. Brings out boldness in her childrenMatthew 20:22–23 NIV “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”a. Not only want, but call out the besti. Challenged not on Jesus, but her kidsMy Moms confidence in me to sign me up for baseball. Mother of JesusLuke 1:26–38 NIV In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.1. Loved in shamea. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”a. Had to hurt a bit to be put asidei. For the Gospel’s sakeii. Wasn’t like he didn’t careRemember my Mom’s reaction when both her boys went into the service. Knew it wasn’t going to be easy but she stood aside and let our wings be spread. She has taken the back seat more times than I can count to uncle Sam but she has never complained.b. But she understood His purpose and worki. She rarely interfered even though the whole wine business did take placeii. But even in that Jesus honored his mother3. Loved until the endJohn 19:25–27 NIV Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.a.
