  • Isn’t that a pleasant thought. You came to church today and the pastor said we need a cleanse.
We are getting ready to do 21 Days of Prayer. In January we do prayer and fasting. But in August, we don’t. But there are things we need to get our of our system.

Detox - Removal of toxic substances from a living organism

In this case us. We will deal with Spiritual, Soul (Mind, Will Emotions) Physical
You can’t stay in Detox mode all the time.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 The Living Bible
23 May the God of peace himself make you entirely pure and devoted to God; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept strong and blameless until that day when our Lord Jesus Christ comes back again.
Spirt, Soul and Body - that’s what we will detox and maintain it.
We have to get some things out of us so that as we spend 21 Days in prayer we can hear from God.
    Leadership Principle from John Maxwell.

    The Rule of 5

If there is a tree in your backyard that you want to cut down, get up every day and swing the axe 5 times each day and then repeat every day… you will cut the tree down. We just have to identify the tree we need to cut down in our lives.
    Proverbs 17:24 GNB
24 An intelligent person aims at wise action, but a fool starts off in many directions.
aims - we have to aim at wise action.

    Be intentional

We need to be intentional. What is it that you need to cut down. You will not be successful if you just float down stream.
Once you know what to do, you have to…

    Be practical

We need to do the right thing.

    Be consistent

You have to swing that axe every day.
Someone said the best exercise to do is the one you will do… every day.

    Expect Results

If we will be intentional, practical, and consistent we can expect results.

What do we need to do?

Every day, do these… These effect your spirit man and if you want your life to be better, tend to your spirit man.
    Matthew 6:33 NIV84
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Seek first… repeat it. Here is the rule of 5 for Detox…

    1. Every day, Acknowledge and thank God

Acknowledge that he has blessed you beyond comprehension. Say these 2 words… thank you!
    Gratitude changes everything.
    Psalm 145:1–3 NLT
1 I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. 2 I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. 3 Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.
Story - African King - Had a friend who said, this is good. The king went hunting and the gun misfired and blew his thumb off and the friend said this is good. The king was captured by cannibals who were about to eat him when they noticed his thumb was missing… being superstitious, they let him go. So the King felt bad for his friend and let him out of jail… said he was sorry for locking him up to which the man replied… this is good. The king said how could this have been good and the man said, if you had not put me in jail, I would have been with you.
It’s an attitude. The secret to having everything is believing that you do.
    Every day swing the axe.

    2. Every day, Talk to God

Just talk to him … not in old English.
    Psalm 68:19 NLT
19 Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. Interlude
Lean on God. Pray like Jesus did. Here is what Jesus did.

    At a specific time

Put it on your appointment and keep it. It doesn’t have to be all day, just every day.
    Psalm 5:3 NLT
3 Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.

    At a specific place

Get in a place where you don’t have distractions and interruptions. Where is that for you.
    Mark 1:35 NLT
35 Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

    With a specific plan

    First 15
One Year Bible - Pray the scriptures
    Devotionals
    Luke 11:2–4 NLT
2 Jesus said, “This is how you should pray: “Father, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. 3 Give us each day the food we need, 4 and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation.”

    3. Read and submit to God’s Word

I don’t expect it to change to my way. I read it and submit to it. I don’t have to do a lot of interpretation, there is plenty there that’s real plain.
Read it and submit to it…
    Isaiah 40:8 NLT
8 The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”
God’s word stands and will stand forever… it doesn’t change because it doesn’t have too.
    Joshua 1:8 NLT
8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
Do you want to prosper? Study, meditate, Obey…
    Psalm 1:1–3 NIV84
1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
You don’t have to do this all day, just every day

    4. Maintain meaningful relationships

There are no lone ranger Christians. We need each other to grow and encourage each other.
    Hebrews 3:13 NLT
13 You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.
We don’t want you to be deceived by sin… nor to be hardened against God.
We want to start Small Groups back up in September…

    5. Surrender my life to God

    Look…
    1 Corinthians 15:31 NIV84
31 I die every day—I mean that, brothers—just as surely as I glory over you in Christ Jesus our Lord.
What do you need to put to death? Jesus died to set you free from it.
    Luke 9:23 NIV84
23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
Deny self… take up His Cross and follow Jesus.
Thank God… Talk to God… Submit to God’s Word… Keep meaningful relationships… Surrender every area of my life to God… then we will
Some of you may feel far from God today… you may have walked away… you may have never been interested. Today you can change this.
We want to pray with you. God says if you will confess me… Raise you hand if you want to be counted in this prayer.
Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that you died for my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I now invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as Lord and Savior. In Jesus Name Amen.
