  • Week 2 of Detox
We are coming out of Summer where we have been on vacations and conferences, and traveling… During the Summer people stop doing things they should be doing like church attendance, QT, eating healthy, all sorts of stuff.
We are coming into the Fall… the season of the Harvest. To get ready for that, we need to refocus and that’s what we will begin nest week on August 1st. It will help us to refresh and refocus as we come out of the Summer.
We don’t normally fast in August like we do in January. However we do need to do something people in recovery are familiar with and that is We need to Detox. Spiritually, Physically, Mentally and Socially.

Detox - Removal of toxic substances from a living organism

Each week we will detox from certain things that pollute us.
Boudreaux Joke… Boudreaux had too much to drink. He got pulled over and the officer asked him if he had been drinking. Boudreaux said only water, but the officer said I smell wine. Boudreaux said He went and did it again… Officer said get out of the car. We are going to do a breathalyzer - Asthmatic… Blood Test - hemophiliac … Walk a straight line - can’t do that I’m drunk.
We need to detox from many different things.
    2 Corinthians 6:14–7:1 NLT
14 Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15 What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 16 And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 17 Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. 18 And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 1 Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
Teamed up - yoked or close to … unbelievers, the world…
Come out from them… What’s in your life that needs to come out? You may be saved, but how much God works in your life is up to you… are you willing to separate yourself from the world?
We want to purify ourselves from things that contaminate our spirit and our body.

Symptom of the need for a Spirit Detox

    Psalm 13:2 NLT
2 How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?
That’s what happens. We wrestle with things in our lives and our thoughts. If this is you, then you need a Spirit Detox today.
What do we do with this?
In Romans 7, Paul talks about his struggle. In chapter 8, he gives the prescription for the infection.
    Romans 8:5–13 NLT
5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. 8 That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. 9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) 10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. 12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.

    Starve it

    Talk about fasting sugar… detox
Some of you have forgotten how good you can feel spiritually

    Starve Doubt:

Doubt sneaks in. You begin to forget the things God does and has done. We haver to get doubt out

Starve Doubt: I will trust what God says

    Proverbs 3:5 NLT
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

    Starve Negativity:

We just get negative. Nothing seems to go right and we just get negative. We think about how nothing works… negative negative negative.
We get to be like Eor in Winnie the Pooh. folks we need to get some Tigger going on in our lives. Tiger is a wonderful thing…

Starve Negativity: I will think what God thinks

    Isaiah 26:3 NKJV
3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.
I have to get my mind right.

Starve Negativity: I will say what God says

    Ephesians 4:29 NLT
29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
Even in traffic. Try it for the next 6 days…
A guy had a real positive dad. He had a large jar on the counter and if they said anything negative they had to put a dollar in the jar. They are positive today because they detoxed their words.

    Starve Sin:

Sin - miss the mark. Why did I miss the mark. The secret to overcoming sin is to change our aim. We just get off the mark, some for the last year and a half.
We repent or change our aim. How many of us have gooten our AIM off just a little over the last year… during the Summer.

Starve Sin: I will turn to what God wants

    Romans 6:13 NLT
13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.
That’s what we have to take out, but we have to put some things in
    Philippians 4:8 NLT
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

    Feed it

    Feed it God’s Word.

Try to get into God’s word and see what happens. Look at this.
    Psalm 1:1–2 GNB
1 Happy are those who reject the advice of evil people, who do not follow the example of sinners or join those who have no use for God. 2 Instead, they find joy in obeying the Law of the Lord, and they study it day and night.

Feed it God’s Word. I will

    Feed it Worship.

Put some worship music on. Spend 6 days to get rid of the secular music and listen to worship music …
    Philippians 4:8–9 NLT
8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
When you do this, you will experience a peace that no pill will ever give you.

    Feed it Worship. I will

    Feed it Prayer

For the next few days, pray… see what happens.
    2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
Give God a concentrated time of prayer with the Lord and see what he does.
Pray this… Holy Spirit, what are you saying to me?
If you give him a chance to identify an area of your life that needs to change, He will.
David asked God to show him if there was anything in his life that was offensive to God…
Pray for God to detox us and lead us into Freedom.
Salvation - It’s time for you to surrender everything to Jesus. Salvation is basically surrender. it’s surrendering control of your life to Jesus.
