Sunday Sermon by Pastor Chris Platteel: "Revealed in Brokenness"/ Confused Minds and Burning Hearts - Wholeness Through Brokenness Luke 24:13-43

Safe Haven Community Church News

From Pastor Chris:

Henny and I are delighted to be received as members of the Safe Haven Family. It will take us awhile to become familiar with each and everyone, but we'll give it a try.

This coming Sunday, I'd like to take us back to the Easter story and the Road to Emmaus account in Luke 24:13-43. There is so much that happened in the weeks following the Resurrection! It must have been difficult for the disciples to comprehend what Jesus had done for them, especially since the Holy Spirit had not yet been poured into their lives.

How did we come to understand who Jesus really is and fathom the brokenness and suffering He went through on our behalf? He must love us so much and so profoundly!

I hope you can join us in-person or on-line as we worship together on Sunday, delve into the scriptures and celebrate Communion together this Sunday.

Remember to prepare a piece of bread or cracker and some juice, if you are joining us on-line.

Blessings on your week.

Pastor Chris

Pancake Breakfast:

As mentioned last week, we made a profit of $1,770.00 which goes directly to the Building Fund. Now onto the next fundraising initiative which could be in the form of a concert, but we are open to all ideas. The Pancake Breakfast enforced the need for Fellowship and to attract people from the community as well.

This leads me into the next major item...

Searching for a Fundraising Team:

As we get into the erection of the church, we will need to have a co-ordinated team to come up with ideas and put them in place for Safe Haven. If you would like to be part of this important team, please make your name known to any of the Elders. We look forward to the success of this much needed endeavour. Please don't be shy, remember this is a way you can serve the Lord!

BAPTISM:

We are aware of 3 individuals who potentially desire to be Baptized. The Elders are working together to make this happen, either indoors or part of an outside celebration during the summer. If you are feeling the need to take your faith forward in a more meaningful way, please contact an Elder and we will take care of the rest.

Mandarin Senior Fellowship:

An opportunity has become available for a senior fellowship get together - 11:30am on Friday May 26th. David and Irveen Powley have indicated that they would like to have this fellowship for Safe Haven seniors. Details as follows:

Mandarin Restaurant on Kingston Rd., Pickering

Seniors 65 plus

Price is $24.00 each (cash only) and includes the full luncheon, drinks and tip.

To register please advise David or Irveen by the first Sunday in May.

Birthdays:

Happy Birthday to all who are celebrating their birthdays between April 30th thru May 6th!

May 5th - Lan Truong

If you would like to have your name included in our birthday announcements or if you prefer not to have your name shown, please contact Sid at sid.snider@outlook.com. We do not need the year you were born.

Wednesday Night Prayer & Praise Meeting:

We are so pleased that the Lord has blessed us with very successful prayer meetings! The wall has been removed to make the room larger and we are back in business.

ALL ARE WELCOME!

We are continuing to grow which is amazing, please come out if you would like to pray or be prayed for.

Join us on Wednesday nights at 7pm at 82 Church St., for a time of prayer and some worship. We are so excited to see God moving on Wednesday nights so far! It is very encouraging and we would love to see you there.

Subsplash: PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR iPHONES OR TABLETS TO CHURCH THIS SUNDAY!

The replacement app for Faithlife will be up and running on May 3rd, 2023. In order to make it easier to load this application, please bring your tablets or smart phones to church this Sunday April 30th, and after the service we will help you download this app.

St. Francis Centre July and August:

God has answered our prayers once again! We have been informed that the renovations at the St. Francis Centre will result in minimal inconvenience. What this means is, we do not have to rent the gym from the school behind us. WE WILL CONTINUE TO STAY WHERE WE ARE DURING THESE MONTHS. PTL!

Newsletter Update:

There will be no Newslettter for May 5th, 2023. Rina and I will be on vacation next week. The next publication will be on May 12th, 2023.

Blessings all!

Sid

FRIDAY NIGHT YOUTH

We are back again this Friday, and we look forward to seeing everyone here at the church! Next month we're planning on going to Epic Runner as an event, and the date for that has currently been set for May 12th!

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Our Sunday School is all about bringing up children God's way, where kids can learn to shine for Jesus and radiate His glory!

"Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6.

There are not many weeks left before S. School takes a break for the Summer, but if you would like to be a teacher starting this Fall, please contact Alex and we will be more than happy to have you!
