Jesus Calls the First Disciples
35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, ithe Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. 38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, j“What are you seeking?” And they said to him, k“Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.10 40 lOne of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus11 was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found mthe Messiah” (which means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of nJohn. You shall be called oCephas” (which means pPeter12).
Title: "What Do You See?"
By: Jeremy Platchek
- Who is Christ to us - He never changes but our perspective does. He named peter for who he will become. We become more holy and sanctified as we live in His calling.
How we view things around us matters!
We have all heard the sayings:
- “look at things in a different light”
- “think outside the box”
- “change your perspective”
- “look at your problem from a different angle”
Sermon Point #1 - We understand that by changing our perspective we can view life’s issues from different points of view.
What Is Perspective
Sermon Point #2 - When we see God’s love in action we should be able to recognize it and thank God for it.
"Look the Lamb of God"
Jesus' First Disciples John 1:35-42
Sermon Point #3 - When John saw Jesus he announced “Look, the Lamb of God” without reservation or hesitation!
Why Do I Hesitate to Give God Glory?!
- I know I am a Child of God – I want my life to bring Glory to Him!
- Hebrews 13 : 8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”
- He never changes / So it can only be my perspective that causes me to hesitate
Sermon Point #4 – The truth is that Jesus Christ has always been the same and will never change…He will always be “the way, the truth, and the life”. From John 14:6
“ I am the Bread of Life ”
Jesus the Bread of Life - John 6:25-36
Sermon Point #5 - Some of the followers turned away because their perspective changed. They lost focus on Christ and began to focus on themselves.
Where is my focus? What is my perspective?
I have a choice to make when it comes to my focus:
- I can choose to focus on Christ and what he has done for me
Or
- I can choose to focus on myself and my needs and wants
Sermon Point #6 - Ask yourself … Where is my focus?
2 Corinthians 4 : 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
So let’s put it all in perspective!
Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are GOD”
Psalm 90 : 1-2
