Lord’s Day 18

49. What benefit do we receive from Christ’s

ascension into heaven?

First, that He is our Advocate in the presence of His Father in heaven. Second, that we have our flesh in heaven as a sure pledge, that He as the Head, will also take us, His members, up to Himself. Third, that He sends us His Spirit as an earnest, by whose power we seek those things which are above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God, and not things on the earth.

50. Why is it added: “And sits at the right hand of

Because Christ ascended into heaven for this end, that He might there appear as the Head of His Church, by whom the Father governs all things.

Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.  And in Jesus Christ, His only-begotten Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy, universal Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Passing on the Mantle!

2 Kings 2:1-18

1. When the Lord determines someone’s work on earth is done, the transition can be difficult!

2. When the Lord determines someone’s work on earth is done, seek God’s blessing as one generation passes the work to another generation!

3. When the Lord determines someone’s work on earth is done, remember that the Lord’s promises, presence and power do not cease!
