The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. Psalm 33:10-12

The more I learn about God, the more aware I become of what I don’t know about him. R. C. Sproul

We cannot know all about God for the obvious reason that the finite cannot comprehend the infinite.  R. B. Kuiper

We know God but as men born blind know the fire. They know that there is such a thing as fire, for they feel it warm them, but what it is they know not. So, that there is a God we know, but what he is we know little, and indeed we can never search him out to perfection; a finite creature can never fully comprehend that which is infinite. Thomas Manton

We must believe God is great without quantity, everlasting without time, and containing all things without extent; and when our thoughts are come to their highest, let us stop, wonder and adore. Joseph Hall

Lord’s Day 32

86. Since, then, we are redeemed from our misery by grace through Christ, without any

merit of ours, why must we do good works?

Because Christ, having redeemed us by His blood, also renews us by His Holy Spirit after His own image, that with our whole life we show ourselves thankful to God for His blessing, and that He be glorified through us; then also, that we ourselves may be assured of our faith by the fruits thereof; and by our godly walk win also others to Christ.

87. Can they, then, not be saved who do not turn to God from their unthankful, unrepentant life?

By no means, for, as Scripture says, no unchaste person, idolater, adulterer, thief, covetous man, drunkard, slanderer, robber, or the like shall inherit the kingdom of God.

Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.  And in Jesus Christ, His only-begotten Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy, universal Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

The Mystery of God’s Providence!

2 Kings 8:1-15

Be patient and trust God’s mysterious providential control:

  1. For God will not abandon His people!

2. God will use even wicked men to chasten His straying people and judge those who reject Him!
