Sunnyside First Baptist Church
Praise and Worship Celebration August 8, 2021
  • Introduction and Purpose

Today is going to be a different day here at First Baptist. If you are visiting with us this is not how we will usually do services
I’ve been thinking about doing this for quite sometime and thought that this was as good as time as any.
We are going to offer Praise and Thanksgiving to God for all the good things that he is making happen inside us and inside his community. We are going sing a a lot, we are going to have dedication of children, we are going to bring new people into membership and we are going to have communion together.
I want to talk about worship singing for a minute…
Worship is only to and for God, it does for God by filling the heavenly spaces with praise and glory to God. In actuality when we worship we should be flat on our faces with out stretched arms singing at the top of our lungs. That is not the case here at this time.
But we, Sunnyside First Baptist, have probably stood for singing since 1903. I’m here to tell you that you can worship sitting, singing, with your arms out-stretched. You can sit quietly and listen, you stand with your arms outstretch.
Worship happens in our HEARTS AND MINDS AND SOULS as we encounter God in Heaven and Jesus.
Before we begin singing I’m going to read from the Psalms.
    Psalm 148:1–6 ESV
1 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights! 2 Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts! 3 Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars! 4 Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens! 5 Let them praise the name of the Lord! For he commanded and they were created. 6 And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.

    Baptism

Baptism is the not the end of your relationship with Christ. It is the beginning. Baptism is the public expression of what God is doing in the heart and mind of the one being baptist. This is the opportunity that Melissa has to stand before her church and shout from the the front of the church to everyone here, to everyone who knows Melissa and to the world that... I AM SAVED, I AM SAVED, THANK GOD I’M SAVED!
These Baptismal waters are for people after they have been saved and are part of the family of God. If you would like to follow Jesus example and be baptized please reach out to me… There is also room to fill the tub.
    Here Jesus example from scripture
    Matthew 3:13–17 ESV
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14 John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. 16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
If you have been baptized before and would like to show the world again that you are a follower of Christ. These waters are for you.
Melissa, I’d like to ask you a few questions
Are you now trusting in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of your sins and the fulfillment of all God's promises to you, even eternal life?
    (I am)
Do you forsake Satan and all his works and all his ways?
    (I do)
Do you intend with God’s help to obey Jesus’ teaching and follow him as your Lord and hold on to Him alone as your Savior?
    (I do)
“On the profession of your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and in obedience to his command, I now baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
I’ve asked your Mom to share a bit of scripture for you. This will be your life verse. Cherish and return to it often in your walk with Christ.

    Child Dedication

Today we are going to officially re-welcome the Gallo family into membership and dedicate their 3 beautiful girls to the Lord.
You, the congregation are a large part of this commitment and dedication that is being made this morning.
Today Gallo and Bethany have come to give thanks for Sophia, Annalise and Layla. Praying that they would come to know and serve Jesus as they come to that age of personal decision.
We also re-welcome Gallo and Bethany back into our membership. We are asking God that he would give them wisdom raising three very active young women!
God Bless you Gallo’s. We pray to give them wisdom and patience as they bring these children to a place of salvation.
As a church we dedicate ourselves to setting a godly example for these three young ladies so that they might one day come to trust in Jesus as there Lord and Savior.
I have asked Gallo and Bethany to write a letter to each of these girls as 18 year old women. Please read those letters to the body here at First Baptist.
    (LETTER TO CHILDREN…)
Gallo and Bethany I want to ask you some questions, if you agree please say “We do”
Gallo and Bethany do you recognize that Sophia, Annalist and Leyla are each a unique gift from God?
    (We do)
Do you accept the joys and the responsibilities of parenting, promising to give proper love care and training to these three little lives throughout there lives.
    (We do)
With the help God provides, do you commit to teach Sophia, Annalise and Leyla, the fullness of God’s Word and demonstrate through your own example and witness what it means to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength?
    (We do)
Now if the congregation would please rise
Please answer “We will” to these questions
To the members and attenders of Sunnyside First Baptist, will you offer your ongoing love, support, prayers and encouragement to Gallo and Bethany in their role as mother and father to these precious lives?
    (We will)
Will you also be faithful in praying for these three young ladies and, as much as you are able, help teach and set a godly example for them so that they might one day come to trust in Jesus as there Lord and Savior?
    (We will
Thank you, you may be seated.
Thank you Gallo and Bethany for bringing your girls before the church and before God and formally dedicating them in service to the Lord.
Eduardo, Bethany, Sophia, Annalise, and Layla - May the Lord Bless you and keep you; may the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the Lord turn His face toward your and give you peace. In His name we pray… AMEN!

    Transfer of Membership

Would those come forward who are requesting membership transfer from a like minded Believers body to Sunnyside First Baptist please come forward.
I’d like to ask you a few question. Please indicate your answer after each of the questions. Please answer “I will” to these questions
    Do you agree
To submit to the authority of the Scriptures as the final arbiter on all issues?
To pursue the Lord Jesus Christ through regular Bible reading, prayer, fellowship and practice of spiritual disciplines?
To follow the command and example of Jesus by participating in the ordinances prescribed to His Church: - By being baptized after my conversion. - By regularly remembering and celebrating the person and work of Christ through the Lord’s Supper?
To regularly participate in the life of Sunnyside First Baptist Church by attending weekly services, engaging in biblical community and serving those within and outside of this church?
To steward the resources God has given me, including time, talents, spiritual gifts, and finances. This includes regular financial giving, service and participation in community that is sacrificial, cheerful, and voluntary?
By God’s grace through the power of the Holy Spirit, to walk in holiness in all areas of life as an act of worship to Jesus Christ?
Jack would you come and hold a VERY short business meeting. Voting these people into membership.

    Communion

While Jesus was explaining communion to his disciples, The Apostle John recorded this
    John 6:53–58 ESV
53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”
When Jesus left the earth He left us with two direct ways to remember who and and what He did here on earth.
The first way is to become Baptized as a believer and to regularly celebrate Communion.
    This morning we celebrate Communion.
We practice open communion here at First Baptist. If you are a believer you are welcome at our table. You may partake in these elements.
If you have yet to commit your life to Christ, please forgo taking of the communion elements.
On the night before Jesus death he gather his disciples in the upper room on the evening before The Passover celebration .
    1 Corinthians 11:23–27 ESV
23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. 27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord.
As they gathered in this upper room.
    Jesus
    Luke 22:19–20 ESV
19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
His disciples would have been utterly confused and frightened by that message. You see each of his disciples had given up every thing to become a followers of Christ.
They gave up family connections and ways of sustaining themselves.
Still when Jesus called they left EVERYTHING and followed the Messiah.
    1 Corinthians 11:23–26 ESV
23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
We worship the Risen and Ascended Jesus each time we take of this cup.
    Of this cup we say...
    Matthew 26:28 ESV
28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
We also say in regards to Christ’s suffering for us...
    1 Peter 3:18 ESV
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,
As is our custom after communion to take a Benevolent Offering for the members of our community, both inside and outside the church who find themselves somewhere between a rock and a hard place with out any place to go. We make available temporary funds to bridge the gap. Jack will be standing at the backdoor with that plate. Just drop whatever you have in your pocket or purse and we will see that those funds are well used.
