    2 Corinthians 6 ESV
1 Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 3 We put no obstacle in anyone’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, 4 but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, 5 beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; 6 by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; 7 by truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8 through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; 9 as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything. 11 We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open. 12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. 13 In return (I speak as to children) widen your hearts also. 14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, 18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”
Just a Bit of Reflection from Last week
This was truly a momentas occasion Paul, was clearly drawing God’s people in to the tent
    2 Corinthians 5:1–2 ESV
1 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling,
Paul is expressing what it is to be found in Christ.
What does the person who committed their life to Christ, walked with Christ
Grown in Christ by the fellowship of other Christians
Grown and matured in Christ through lifelong discipleship and relationships that lead to growth.
Paul insisted that you walk by The Spirit. The Spirit that is guaranteed at our commitment to Christ.
    2 Corinthians 5:5–9 ESV
5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. 6 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.
The home that is talked about awaits us. It is a fantastic place that God has continued to work on, to prepare for those who call on His name.
Our chief aim must be to PLEASE HIM! It is our command and call!
Whatever we are asked to do… we must pursue with all of our Heart, Soul, Mind and Strength.
Notice I used pursue… It is actually something that was complete at salvation, it true for today and will be true until Jesus’ returns.
Why can’t we relax and glide through life and face God when the time comes?
You can… there is no reason that your faith alone is not going to be found worthy of eternity with God.
    2 Corinthians 5:10 ESV
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
Everyone will appear before the[judgment] Bema seat… Everyone. No one get a pass.
There will be judgment for the sin in our bodies and in our hearts and rewards for the good that we have done.
Now you ask to what end…?
Aren’t we going to Heaven based on our Faith? - Yes!
Is there anything that we can do to forfeit that salvation? - No!
Listen to these verses both Old Testament and New Testament.
    1 Samuel 16:7 ESV
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
    Hebrews 4:13 ESV
13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
I thank God that as He is sorting through my many weaknesses and sins, he see’s my heart.
And I hope that for you...
What the scripture is absolutely certain or is this
    1 Corinthians 4:5 ESV
5 Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
For an absolute truth. We are being given the instruction and opportunity to IMPROVE our position with Christ.
The CONTENT of our heart matters when we are standing before the only Judge that matters.
    What “CONTENT” matters to God...
    A pure heart
    A soft heart
A heart that is willing to be taught
A heart that is willing to listen and practice what they have been given.
    Galatians 5:22–25 ESV
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
Here are those things that God will Judge on that day...
    Galatians 5:19–21 ESV
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Your heart matters… Make sure that your heart is pure!
You may need to pray a prayer like this
Dear Lord… can I have a fresh start? My life is mess, My spirit is down, My heart is full of sin. Is there any hope for me… Yes, Yes,Yes.
    2 Corinthians 5:20–21 ESV
20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Paul takes a turn now in his letter to the Corinthians
    2 Corinthians 6:1 ESV
1 Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.
This is a personal appeal… to the Corinthians, the followers of Jesus, who really anyone who would listen.
Believe it or not we are currently living in a world that is bathed in the Grace of God. It will be known in the end-times what it is like to live without the Grace of God and the Spirit of God.
Paul’s appeal from 2000 years ago echoes loudly! “…not to receive the grace of God in vain.
There are a couple of questions that are implied here.
    How costly is Grace...
Have I done enough to earn Grace?

    Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate.
    ------------------
Costly grace is the treasure hidden in the field; for the sake of it a man’ will gladly go and self all that he has. It is the pearl of great price to buy which the merchant will sell all his goods. It is the kingly rule of Christ, for whose sake a man will pluck out the eye which causes him to stumble, it is the call of Jesus Christ at which the disciple leaves his nets and follows him.
OK Jeff, you have pretty well netted for me that there is a cost to the Grace and have and enjoy.
If I’m going to follow those orders I need to know what they are...
    2 Corinthians 6:3 ESV
3 We put no obstacle in anyone’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry,
Don’t get stuck on the last word “ministry” and that only Pastors have a ministry...
Mom and Dad your ministry of major importance is your children to raise them them to revere the Lord.
Grandpa and Grandma - Our job is to spoil the grandkids, get them all wound up and then send them home. (your job is not done, our kids need our advice, direction and guidance. What kind of relationship you had with them is going to determine if they will listen to you)
Is the much or any cost there?
Depends how much pride you have… How much are you willing to set yourself aside and focus where it is really important.
Ok… Here is the tough stuff.
    2Cor6.4-10
    2 Corinthians 6:4–10 ESV
4 but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, 5 beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; 6 by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; 7 by truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8 through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; 9 as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.
There is a LIFETIME of actions, interactions and specific items we are to follow in not accepting Grace in vain.
Are you saying… I’m out here, there is no way I can complete this in 70-80-90 years, I am doomed.
You are doomed, I am doomed...
That’s where Grace happens, That’s where God see’s our heart, That’s where he looks deeply and decides what kind of intentions we have had, what were our successes and how did we handle our failures.
Make sure you Heart is RIGHT!
Next week we will be looking at 2Corinthians8. Yes is it out our order...
Jill is going out to Indianapolis this coming Wednesday and I am following on the next Tuesday the 26. We will be back on 10/3. Levi Scott Pagel is being born.
