Who Are You?

1 Peter 2:9 The Voice
But you are a chosen people, set aside to be a royal order of priests, a holy nation, God’s own; so that you may proclaim the wondrous acts of the One who called you out of inky darkness into shimmering light.
Do you know who you are? As I work with high school students in the college application process I often ask them if they know who they are and what they are passionate about. It’s really hard to help someone find their right college fit if they don’t know what fits them because they don’t know who they are. I truly believe there are many people that have confessed faith in Christ Jesus that really don’t know who they are either, and when you don’t know who you are you sometimes try to fit into places you just don’t belong.
Peter says that we are a chosen people. What does that mean? It means that God chose us. God wants us. God delights in us, and we do not need to fit in with anyone else. We do not need the approval of anyone else. We are loved for simply being who we are. We do not need to identify as anything other than loved by God. Recognize who you are today. You are loved by God. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus dying for us while we were still sinners is proof that we are loved by God. If He loved you then, imagine how He loves you now that you are a part of His family. Allow the Holy Spirit to reveal that truth to you today. Let it sink into your heart. Think about it and let it overtake your mind. You are loved by God. That is the truth. Now what does that mean to you?
Holy Spirit, I ask You to reveal the love of God to me today. Make it real. Let it overtake my thoughts. Let that truth overwhelm my emotions. Teach me who I really am in You, and help me know the height, depth, width, and length of Your love. In Jesus’ Name...
