Canton Rejoicing Spirits - First Worship Service
April 26, 2018 - Trinity Lutheran Church
Welcome

Thank you for coming today to our first-ever Rejoicing Spirits worship service! We hope to have another one soon!

We call each other Rejoicers here because each one of us is a child of God here to rejoice in God’s love for all people!

Today’s Leaders are Pastor Micah, Linda, and Jeanine.

Song: "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands"

He's got the whole world in his hands,

He's got the whole world in his hands,

He's got the whole world in his hands,

He's got the whole world in his hands.

He's got the sun and the rain in his hands,

He's got the moon and the stars in his hands,

He's got the wind and the clouds in his hands,

He's got the whole world in his hands.

He's got all of us Rejoicers in his hands,

He's got all of us Rejoicers in his hands,

He's got all of us Rejoicers in his hands,

He's got the whole world in His hands.

Word of the Day: Alleluia

The word “Alleluia” means “Praise God!” During today’s service, play your instrument or clap whenever we say this word!

Confession & Forgiveness

Leader says: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Rejoicers say: Amen.

Leader says: Almighty God, we can hide no secrets from you. Cleanse the thoughts in our hearts by filling us with the Holy Spirit so that we may always love you and rejoice in you.

Rejoicers say: Amen.

Leader says: If we say that we are perfect and do not sin, we are not being honest. But if we confess our sins, our faithful God will forgive us.

Rejoicers say: God, forgive me for the times when I have hurt other people by what I thought, said or did. Help me every day to be kind and caring to everyone.

Leader says: As a pastor, I get to announce to you God’s good news! God has forgiven you, and God wants you to live in a way that shows that!

Rejoicers say: Amen. Alleluia!

Sharing the Peace

Leader says: The peace of the Lord be with you. Alleluia!

Rejoicers say: And also with you. Alleluia!

Leader says: High-five the people around you to celebrate that Jesus loves all of us!

Bible Reading: John 15:1-8

Leader says: [Jesus said to his disciples:] “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.

Message & Activity: The Vine and the Branches

Write your name on a branch, and we will attach it to the vine. You are a branch connected to Jesus, and you bear fruit in his name!

Song: "Christ Has Arisen, Alleluia"

Leader sings:

Christ has arisen, alleluia.

Rejoice and praise him, alleluia.

For our redeemer burst from the tomb,

even from death, dispelling its gloom.

Rejoicers sing:

Let us sing praise to him with endless joy.

Death’s fearful sting he has come to destroy.

Our sin forgiving, alleluia!

Jesus is living, alleluia!

Leader sings:

Go spread the news:

he’s not in the grave.

He has arisen this world to save.

Jesus’ redeeming labors are done. Even the battle with sin is won.

Rejoicers sing:

Let us sing praise to him with endless joy.

Death’s fearful sting he has come to destroy.

Our sin forgiving, alleluia!

Jesus is living, alleluia!

Leader sings:

Christ has arisen to set us free.

Alleluia, to him praises be.

Jesus is living! Let us all sing;

he reigns triumphant, heavenly king.

Rejoicers sing:

Let us sing praise to him with endless joy.

Death’s fearful sting he has come to destroy.

Our sin forgiving, alleluia!

Jesus is living, alleluia!

Prayers

After each part of the prayers, the Leader says: “Lord, in your mercy.”

Rejoicers say: Hear our prayer.

The Lord's Prayer

Leader says: Let us pray the prayer that Jesus taught us.

Rejoicers say: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, they will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Sending Song: "Jesus Loves Me!"

Jesus loves me! this I know, for the Bible tells me so;

little ones to him belong, they are weak, but he is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me,

yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! he who died heaven's gates to open wide;

he will wash away my sin, let his little child come in.

Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me,

yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! he will stay close beside me all the way;

when at last I come to die, he will take me home on high.

Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me,

yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so.

Blessing

Leader says: The Lord bless you and keep you...In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Rejoicers say: Amen.

Leader says: Christ is risen! Alleluia! Go in peace. Serve the Lord with joy!

Rejoicers say: Thanks be to God. Alleluia!
