How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
    1 Corinthians 15:35 (ESV)
35 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised?
WE: IDENTIFICATION (MAKE IT CLEAR THAT YOU STRUGGLE)
GOD: ILLUMINATION (THE GOAL IS TO RESOLVE THE TENSION

    I. The requirement of Resurrection is the death of the body

    A. Can’t have resurrection if you don’t die.

    1 Corinthians 15:36 (ESV)
36 You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
    John 12:24 ESV
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
Some people have a hard time talking about death.
Don’t be afraid of death because if you don’t embrace it you can’t have a resurrected body.
People want to live forever they would have to live in the body they possess. What a terrible thought.
illustration: Dallas Willard. Afraid to talk about death. Page 89
We need to be prepared for death. ( I was working in the human service field and we were helping the residence set up their plans.
It dawned on me that when I get something new I would like to try it out. Well at that time I thought I was not anxious to try that out.

II. The result of Resurrection is a different type of body.

37 And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. 38 But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body. 1 Corinthians 15:37-38 (ESV)
Body out of the grave is different
Our bodies will be different from human at death
Four different qualities of our resurrection body.
    A. Our new bodies will be indestructible
42 So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. 1 Corinthians 15:42 (ESV)
    Sown in corruption
    Raised in incorruption
One who has not experienced this
    Psalm 16:10 (ESV)
For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.
Are present bodies wear out but are new bodies will not

    A. Are new bodies are indestructible.

Can I get an Amen ( I noticed the older bodies are louder)

    B. Our new bodies will be identifiable

43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. 1 Corinthians 15:43 (ESV)
Glorious body like the body of are savior
20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. Philippians 3:20-21 (ESV)
Transformed body so it is like the glorious body Christs
Glory description the the body of Jesus
43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. 1 Corinthians 15:43 (ESV)
Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
    1 John 3:2 (ESV)
    1 Corinthians 15:49 (ESV)
49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
    Body by Jesus
    40 day period

    1. Jesus said his body was real

    Luke 24:39 (ESV)
39 See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”
Real body not a spirit body

    2. Jesus ate on two occasions.

    Luke 24:42-43 (ESV)
42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate before them.
    John 21:12-13 (ESV)
12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish.

    3. Jesus told Thomas to Touch His Body

    John 20:27 (ESV)
27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”

    4. Jesus told Mary not to hold on to him.

Bodies will be real bodies the sense of touch.
    John 20:17 (ESV)
17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
In my new body will people know me and will I know others? Jesus proved its.
They knew this so deeply that they all went to there deaths proclaiming Jesus.
    1 Cor. 13:12 (ESV)
12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
    Indestructible

    C. Our New Bodies will be incredible

43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. 1 Corinthians 15:43 (ESV)
    No limitation
    John 20:19 (ESV)
19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews,[a] Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

    D. Our New Bodies will Be infinite

    1 Corinthians 15:44 (ESV)
44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
Adam image bearer of this body
Christ as the image bearer of our Heavenly Body
Confusion over Heavenly body and spiritual body.
    What is a spiritual body?
He is not talking real bodies.. no longer controlled by physical body. Spiritual suited for heaven
    1 Corinthians 15:50 (ESV)
50 I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
We will no longer be governed by the appetites of the flesh.
Governed now by the appetites of the spirit.
I am passionate about taking people to Heaven with me.
I don’t want them to miss out.
YOU: APPLICATION (TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO DO AND WHAT THEY HAVE HEARD)
