In an intellectual world dominated by humanistic rationalism, it is good to see a book addressing the dark, sinful, and demonic realities that leave the secular world speechless. Daniel Juster takes us through the entire biblical witness. His approach is clear, forthright in acknowledging uncertainties of meaning, and useful for all. Following his analysis of Scripture, Juster brings us into ancient and contemporary witnesses who have encountered spiritual darkness and overcome with the Light of the world.

Dan Juster takes us through the Bible on the topic of powers of light and darkness. He sheds a lot of light on the texts, but at the same time he is not trying to answer every possible question. His book is a great guide to study and deepen the understanding of the powers of light and darkness. I am personally impressed with the diligence and depth of Dan’s thinking and ability to explain complex issues in a comprehensible way. Thank you, Dan, for your wonderful work.

In the 1990s there was some controversy on the subject of spiritual warfare. Some were insistent that the norm in prayer was to directly address demonic principalities and powers to nullify their influence in a particular region. Others taught that this was an aberration, was dangerous, and never should be done. Other issues being discussed at that time were spiritual mapping, identificational repentance, and cleansing the land by breaking curses and removing demon strongholds associated with it. Daniel Juster’s book addresses these topics using the Scripture as his foundation for discerning the truth. He gives practical insights on how to go forward on important kingdom activities as we are led by the Spirit leading. This book will help move us forward and into greater unity.

Daniel Juster once and for all answers the question, “What does the Bible actually teach us about angels, demons, and spiritual warfare?” This book systematically examines each occurrence of these supernatural beings and uncovers their power for good and evil. If you are looking for a Biblical commentary on what the whole of Scriptures teaches on angels, demons, and spiritual warfare, this is your book.

There is nothing mystical about “spiritual warfare.” The essence of the Great Commission Jesus gives is His directive to advance with the light of the Gospel and the truth of God’s Word into the face of a world suffocating in the darkness and smothering within the fog of fumes of hell that seeped and spread across the earth—poisoning the minds and blinding the eyes of humankind. The light of the world has come in the person of God’s Son who is at the same time the way out of the darkness, the
truth to shatter error, and the life to resurrect dead humanity wherever any individual will receive Him as the Savior. Any resource that assists in discerning and resisting vicious activities of Satan’s enterprises achieving the adversary’s heinous resistance needs to be understood by those who would do battle against the Darkness and advance the Kingdom of Light. This book is a resource to support in that advance and accept those who would be prepared to stand firm for the truth and declare it boldly.

There’s a spiritual battle waging all around us, and we can’t ignore it and hope it disappears. It’s not going to disappear; and if you don’t show up for the fight, you’re going to lose. That’s why I am grateful for Daniel Juster’s important book, Powers of Light and Darkness. This book is a valuable tool for those who want to know what the Bible says about spiritual warfare, because knowing the power and truth of God’s Word is the only way we’re going to win the battle.
