Gleanings in Proverbs

Among all the books of the Bible, Proverbs is most aptly styled "wisdom literature," being intensely practical in nature. Its precepts obeyed bring success into the life of any person regardless of creed, denomination, or doctrinal persuasion. Yet, its timeless truths are not to be understood as standing apart from, or in any way independent of the great Central Figure of all the scriptures, the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ's glory is reflected in its counsel, His person is revealed in its similitudes, metaphors, and examples, and His everlasting gospel is held forth in the calls, pleadings, and invitations of Wisdom personified. Gleanings in Proverbs will assist the reader in reading and gleaning all that Proverbs seeks to give. This daily devotional on the book of Proverbs is divided into thirty-one chapters and commends itself to be easily read each month by reading one chapter everyday. The short commentaries on the text are intended to be both instructive and devotional. Its use as a commentary is facilitated by the scripture texts at the head of each selection, and the days of the year are added as a guide for daily devotional reading.
