“Mommy, where do babies come from?” Out of the mouths of infants comes one of the ultimate questions of life. It points to our innate desire to know about our origins. And not just about our family history. We want to know the whole story. We want to know about the first man and woman and how they got here. We want to know how “here” got here—how the earth began, how the sun started shining, where the stars came from. If we understand our beginnings, we can better understand who we are and where we’re going. When Genesis was first written, it provided a God-given corrective to a plethora of fanciful creation myths in the ancient world.
