Overview

The inspiration for this volume emerged from years of friendship, dialogue, and collaboration between a Jewish rabbi and Christian professor. Historically, Jewish-Christian relations has been a fraught sphere of inquiry. Despite sharing a set of Scriptures, the relationship between Christians and Jews has been marked by distrust, misunderstandings, and exaggerated theological differences, which taken together appear to create an indissoluble wedge between the two faiths. This volume brings the two faiths into fruitful and productive dialogue by unearthing recondite, yet highly significant features shared between them. Beyond being an academic exercise, the aspiration undergirding this project is to bridge the gap between Jews and Christians, and by doing so, chart a path forward toward rapprochement, reconciliation, and Jewish-Christian unity.

With The Seed of Abraham, Reardon and Wolicki have made a significant contribution to the body of literature demonstrating the compatibility of Judaism and Christianity. Published at a time when Jews in Israel and around the world are in desperate need of allies, this work takes a proactive step to shift the focus away from what separates us toward what unites us—our shared convictions.

——Jonathan Jaffit, Jewish campus chaplain, University of Toronto

The Seed of Abraham is a collaborative milestone in the ever-evolving field of Jewish-Christian dialogue. This exceptional collection of insightful essays fosters a respectful theological discourse among Jews and Christians, primarily from a biblical-theological perspective. The authors extend a warm invitation to the reader to embark on a shared journey of exploration into uncharted territories of Jewish and Christian thought and to grapple with challenging questions in biblical scholarship, religious studies, and the cross-pollination of Jewish and Christian ethics and theology.

——Igal German, International Biblical Apologetics Association and Yesod Bible Center

This timely volume gathers the best of Jewish and Christian theological voices to demonstrate how much the faith communities that claim Abraham as their spiritual father can glean from the wisdom of their respective traditions. At the same time, the gathering of these voices shows how essential the truths embodied in these faith traditions are for the flourishing of our world.

——Corné J. Bekker, dean and professor, Regent University School of Divinity
