Galatians 5:13–26 ESV 13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.SermonServe one another with Unconditional LoveJames 5:13–16 ESV 13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.Do not habour the sins of your brother & sister in ChristConfess sins - requires unconditional love and forgiveness in the fellowshipDo not bit and devour one another - lest you consume each otherwork of Flesh / Sin - tears others downwork of Spirit - builds others up (unconditional Love)Society is full of broken peopleGod’s People need HealingBrought about through serving one another with unconditional loveSinful Nature - Withholding LoveAll sin is equal in the sight of GodAll have sinnedSin is against God, Yourself & OthersWorship Sins - destroy the churchDarness of the absense of Gods Love in an individuals lifeSexual SinGalatians 5:19 ESV 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,God made us to enjoy His CreationAdam & Eve before the fallIt was very goodNatural outcomes to our sinful natureSin is naturalNatural does not mean goodSex misusedas individuals & societycalled to love the sinner, not the sinsociety, and sadly Christians, have mistreated them insteabeaches to God’s sexual lawssex outside of the marriage between a man and a womanLeviticus 18parent & child / grandchild, including adults, & partnerswith step parents/child & inlawssiblings & half-siblings, or their partnerswith two individuals related to each otherhomosexualityanimalsor as part of a religious ritualSupernatural SinGalatians 5:20–21 ESV 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these.
