Confessions is a brilliant theological work, but this translation is horrendous. There is zero reason for a translator in the 1990s to go out of his way to make it sound like King James English. If you are a reader who really wants to understand what Augustine is saying, aim for a translation that is geared towards people that live in the 2000s, not the 1600s.
