- This was my first exposure to any writings of Hurtado. I plan on reading more of his books in the near future. I purchased this in hopes of understanding how Jesus was thought of as God prior to a doctrinal creed. I often hear arguments that Christ was voted in as God at the council of Nicea, or how the idea of trinitarian doctrine was heavily influenced by a pagan/platonic worldview. This book, although short, provides a concise logical case for the early worship and understanding of Jesus in a dyadic sense. The cultural context of worship as an action, verses our modern concept of doctrinal creedal statements, along with demonstrating that the writings of Paul were simply reiterating what already was, help solidify what many already have come to know and love. Jesus is Lord. I highly recommend this book.
