Reverend Dwight A. Cokely
Rev. Dwight Anthony Cokely is a Holy Spirit-led, gifted preacher and teacher of the gospel. His life assignment is to advance God’s Kingdom agenda in the earth through humble and thoughtful servant leadership that inspires and empowers people to take the next step of faith. He currently lives out this calling in the capacity in Christian Education Ministry and Spiritual Advisor to the Young Adult Ministry at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia under the dynamic leadership of Rev. Dr. Carl M. Johnson. In addition to Rev. Cokely’s aforementioned assignment he is also is one of the assistant ministers at the Adams Inspirational AME Church, Fort Washington, MD under the exceptional leadership Rev. Latisha T. Cokely
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Rev. Cokely faithfully served in ministry for 14 years in Los Angeles, California as a very active member of True Vine Baptist Church and Greater New Bethel Baptist Church (GNB), both located in the city of Inglewood, California. During his tenure at these churches he served in many capacities such as President of the Men’s Ministry, a Trustee Board member (Treasurer), ordained deacon and he taught Sunday school to young men between the ages of 13-18. With a belief in the power of nurturing the young men at GNB, Rev. Cokely established a young men’s basketball team through the Organization of West Adams Christian Athletics (OWACA) where they would go on to an undefeated season and win the 2003 OWACA Basketball Championship.
Accepting the call of the Holy Spirit and his assignment to preach the gospel on September 1, 2004, Rev. Cokely was ordained as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ at Greater New Bethel Baptist Church by Pastor Earl Pleasant on June 13, 2009.
When his career moved him across the country to Virginia, Rev. Cokely joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where he served for 6 years in numerous capacities; Ministerial staff, Ezekiel Missionary Ministry (Chaplain); Men’s Ministry (Vice-President); Caring Ministry; Warriors for Christ (Spiritual Advisor); Bible Study and Church School Teacher; Anniversary Ministry and the Mighty Men of Valor.
Rev. Cokely is a graduate of Freeport High School, Freeport New York, and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from St. John’s University in Queens, New York. At St. John’s he was a student-athlete and a charter member of Lambda Rho Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Rev. Cokely recently received his Master of Divinity Degree from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, at Virginia Union University (May 2018)
Having been employed with the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the past 28 years, he currently serves as a Staff Coordinator at DEA Headquarters assigned to the Pharmaceutical Investigations Section; where he coordinates operations for Divisional offices in the New Jersey, New England and Pennsylvania.
Along his journey, Rev. Cokely has received numerous ecclesiastical and civic awards, yet his greatest accomplishment is his union with his wife Rev. Latisha Thomas Cokely and his family Dominic, Truth and Vic ‘Tor. Rev. Cokely is an avid reader of the bible and a sports enthusiast, and he enjoys photography and fellowshipping with the saints. His greatest service is to the Lord and ministering to the lost, and he fervently subscribes to the words written in Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (KJV)
