- For a different perspective and approach, read A Letter to My Congregation, Second Edition: An evangelical pastor's path to embracing people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender into the company of Jesus by Ken Wilson (Author), Phyllis Tickle (Introduction), David P. Gushee (Foreword). You can read it for free at Internet Archive if you don't want to purchase the book.
- Very disappointing. There was not much of value to be learned by reading it, so I returned it within my 30 days to Logos. A lot of quoting other authors, including rejecting some of Michael Heiser’s teachings, but not much in-depth scripture study at all.
- TY for the comments. Yes, Heiser has be extremely helpful. What dos the author reject? Is there anything in the book you consider helpful, regardless of its problems?
- Eric Weiss--Thank you for your comments. Like "Barnabas", a short review of Scott D. MacDonald's book would help potential readers. Recently (YouTube, April 2024), N. T. ("Tom") Wright was interviewed with regard to his own book on "Jesus and the Powers", co-written with Australian biblical scholar, Michael Bird (2024). Essentially, Wright agreed with the late Dr. Michael Heiser's on the 'assembly of the gods'. Heiser's critical scholarship is becoming more widely known among American evangelicals. However, some people may not be aware that Tom Wright secured an MA in Classics from Oxford on the way to securing his DPhil (Oxford, 1978). Heiser was a notable OT scholar in Semitic Languages. The benefit to biblical studies is Heiser's own scholarship in the Ancient Near East backgrounds. Heiser's attention to James H. Charlesworth's chapter, "Bashan, Symbology, Haplography, and Theology in Psalm 68" (Part III, in 'David and Zion') is an important read. Engagement with ideas in which we may differ is important to personal growth, understanding of others, and leads to better discussions.
