These verses close out our verses for 2025. They fit well with our celebration of Christ’s birth. Without Christ, we would not have “Christ”mas. Without Christ, we would not be experiencing the surpassing riches of God’s mercy and grace and His great love with which He loves us. But with Christ, we have everything we need pertaining to life and godliness now and for eternity.

In John 4:23–24, Jesus proclaims that true worship must be “in spirit and truth”.  We must engage both the mind and the affections, proceeding from a spirit shaped by Scripture and centered on Christ.  God alone determines the worship He accepts, and He calls us to adore Him in truth.

Pastor Jeff pointed out a couple of weeks ago from Colossians 3:17, that “Everything we do is to be done for Jesus Christ.” The verses that we have been memorizing from Ephesians 1:3-14, last year, and 2:4-18, this year give us answers to the “Why”.

Everything we have been studying informs the decisions we make about our life and actions. We worship well when we make the most of Jesus. Between the exhortation for the body and the exhortation for individuals is verse 17. Everything we do is to be done in the name of the Lord Jesus

What kind of worship does God accept? In John 4:21–24, Jesus reveals that the Father seeks those who will worship Him not by ritual or location, but “in spirit and truth.” True worship is to the Father, through the Son, and by the Spirit — sincere, informed, and wholly centered on the God who alone is worthy of all praise.

Now, in Christ they have both been brought near to God through the blood of Christ. All the barriers that were between them spiritually have been completely removed.

In Ephesians 2:11-12, Paul had pointed out where the Gentiles were spiritually before Jesus Christ saved them. Now, through the blood of Jesus Christ, their disadvantage spiritually in comparison to the Jews has been completely removed. Now in verse 14. He points out what their relationship to Christ Jesus and others should be.
