How do we live in a world like this? How should we as Christians act in a world where we're sometimes seen as strange, or even dangerous? That's the question Peter answers for his readers in this section. As we examine this text, we see that we have been called to be different. We are called to live different lives, not in a divisive or off-putting way, but in a way that is appealing to those who don't know Jesus.

Sometimes it feels like the darkness is winning. With all the hatred and division in the world, it might feel like there is no hope for light and love to overcome. But in 1 John 2:3-11, we hear that the true light is already shining. It shines in Jesus, and it shines in us.

John the Baptist doesn't want us to miss this. He wants to make sure we see who Jesus is, what he came to do, and what the proper response to that information is. He wants us to see that Jesus is the Lamb of God, and that we should believe in him and follow him.
