This week we continued our Back to Basics series with a look at Matthew 10:34-42. In this section, Jesus is setting his disciples' expectations. He's showing them that they can expect both success and suffering in their work as his representatives. But he's also showing them that he needs to be the number one priority in their lives. How can he demand so much from us? Because he himself has given his all for us.

This week we had Pastor Josh Bodden from Abiding Word in Spring, TX come and share God's Word with us. He reminded us on the basis of 1 Corinthians 4:1-7 that we are called for a high purpose.

We're continuing our Back to Basics series, but this week is different. The past two weeks have been positive, feel good topics. This week we talk about struggle. We talk about the times when it feels like God isn't with you, or that his Word isn't working. That's how Jeremiah felt. He was being persecuted and rejected, and it seemed like the was all alone. But in the span of a few short verses, Jeremiah goes from complaining to praising. How? By committing his cause to the Lord.

This Sunday we heard the story of Jesus calling Matthew to follow him. In this story, we see Jesus interact with two groups of people: the healthy and the sick. So whichever one you feel like, Jesus has something to say to you.

There are about a million sermons you could preach on this text. But today what we're going to focus on as we look at Genesis 1-2 is what these verses teach us about God, our origins, and what those things mean for our everyday lives.
