The Peace of Jesus Christ
John 14.27
Where the Peace of Jesus Christ reigns, anxiety has to flee.
Peace in the Greek literally means: to bind together, to join, to weave together. This reminds me of 1 Corinthians 6.17 "He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him". This is a powerful verse because to literally become one with Christ means that his peace reigns in our hearts.
The Hebrew word for Peace is Shalom. It speaks of much more, experiencing the highest good, possessing all the inner good from God. It literally means wholeness and soundness of mind. Think about that for a moment. "Soundness of mind" How would your thought process, your imaginations, your fears, your ideas change if you operated in Soundness of Mind. 2 Timothy 1.7 "For God did not give us a Spirit of Fear but of POWER, LOVE, and SOUND MIND!
The worlds system offers a counterfeit peace: It is sought through pleasure, positive thinking, denial, satisfaction, pursuit of personal goals. But this counterfeit actually leads to more anxious thoughts and anguish. You are left with feelings of lack.
The peace of Christ however:
1. Bosom Peace: A peace deep within
2. Peace of Conquest: A peace that does not depend on circumstances
3. Peace of Assurance: A peace with the Knowledge that your life is in God's hands.
4. The peace of Intimacy with God: This peace will literally settle and transform your heart. Allow you to live a life of peace not just moments of peace.
This peace is based on relationship with Jesus Christ. It is not a transactional peace much less a momentary peace. In order to Experience this we need to be woven, bound, and "United" to Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 6.17).
