• Had no idea about these sermons. Same year as the trifecta of a Letter to the Christian Nobility, the Babylonian Capitivity of the Church and the Freedom of the Christian Man. Has be good stuff. By the way please go to the Community pricing and put a bid for the complete Kretzmann's Popular Commentary Set ! It's been there for five years! It needs to be on Logos. Please!!! They are trying to sell it for $16!!! Make a bid and make my dream come true.
    1. The above endorsements for this commentary are outstanding, made by present day outstanding exegetes! As far as I know none of the three exegetes are Lutherans, so there is no denominational bias here. Just quality work! Recognized by those even outside the church body. I however, am biased. And that is why I am going to ask whoever is reading this to order on community pricing PE Kretzmann's Popular Commentary on the whole Bible. It is 90 years old. But it is still crammed with good stuff. and every now and then has a luther quote or points you to one you can look up. Logos' goal is to sell it for only $16! That means only $4 each for the original four volumes. Some of his side topics, like "Demon Possession", are things that pastors and parishioners often wonder about. Please order it. I've been waiting four years to get this off the community pricing and onto the pre-pub.
      1. I am a Lutheran Missouri-Synod Pastor. Thomas Schreiner is my favorite exegete who is not a Lutheran! The guy is very conversant with present-day exegetical work and past exegetical work. He seems to try to "taste" every flavor, but is not afraid to say this flavor is terrible and this flavor is great! I would think that in this "shorter" commentary series, he will be much-more laser-like in his presentation. By the way, if you are thinking about getting this commentary I would assume that you are a student of sane exegesis. If that is true, could I recommend to you bidding on the Kretzmann Popular Commentary on Community pricing. It has been a blessing to Pastors and laypeople for 90 years! This is a running expository commentary on the entire Bible by a Lutheran exegete. Right now the goal of Logos is to sell it for only $16. You are talking about an original four volume work and almost 3000 pages.
        1. Thanks for the Kretzmann recommendation.
      2. Have not seen the book yet, but have the first two installments of this Matthew Commentary. Gibbs always seeks to be an exegete and a pastor at the same time. And in my opinion always succeeds. God be praised! One more thing. I am a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod pastor. And have been waiting four years for Logos to electronically make Kretzmann's Popular Commentary part of my Logos library. It won't happen unless you go to community pricing and make your bid! Logos is hoping to sell it for $16 if they get enough people to make a commitment to purchasing it. Kretzmann is over 90 years old, but is still a great resource and part of the Missouri Synod's exegetical history! Make my dream come true and bid. Please!!!
        1. So happy that they did a new edition of the church postils. I do not believe it was part of the original plan of the new Luther's Works. We probably will not see a new edition of the House Postils for Luther's Works, but we have to remember that Baker Books came out with a new one in 1996. Perhaps Baker will work with Logos someday to get this out. They seem to have a great relationship. One more thing. Please order the Kretzmann commentary on the Old and New Testaments on community pricing. It has been there far too long. $16 is a steal for what is the most influential English commentary in the history of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
          1. Hey Order this! It is really great that CPH and Logos are giving a new revised version of one of Luther's most important works---the Church Postils. These versions seem longer than the old Lenker versions. By the way, dear reader, go to Community Pricing right now and please put in a bid for PE Kretzmann's Complete Popular Commentary on the Bible. This work is a classic! And has been a mainstay especially of Lutheran-Church Missouri Synod Pastors and laypeople for just short of a hundred years. It needs to be in Logos format. The original typset was annoyingly small! Bid for it today and we just might be able to get the whole commentary for $16!!!!
            1. Hey Get this book! It's been a long time coming! This book is loaded with Luther's sermons for the First Sunday after Easter. That means it has a lot of stuff about what Luther thought about the office of the keys that Christ gave to his disciples on the day of his resurrection. Sometimes there is confusion over this question: Can the laymen actually absolve and say I forgive you on Christ's behalf? This helps clear up the confusion. By the way. Please go to the Community pricing and order PE Kretzmann's Popular Commentary for $16! You won't be disappointed! This really should be in Logos format. It is a classic and the typeset from the original was too small!
              1. Dudes. This would be so great to have! And what a great price! Every LCMS Lutheran cleryman has had some kind of experience with Kretzmann and that small print type. Let's make the type bigger and the whole work accessible at the touch of a button! Yeah, you can get this on a website, but the functionality of Logos will make this well worth $16!
