- Here is an example of the fresh, conversational style of this commentary. Love it! The accuser alleges, however, that her companion’s baby died in the night because she smothered it, likely in her sleep. This woman got up, pilfered the living child from the accuser while she slept, placed her dead baby in the accuser’s arms, and insisted that the pirated infant was her own (vv. 19–20). Imagine my surprise in the morning, she says, when my baby wouldn’t take my breast, and then, after rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, I look closer and it’s not my kid at all (v. 21)!
