Joshua Ankiah
- Hello Mark. You said: "Did not God elect Israel in the Old Testament above every nation?" Please ask yourself why did He elect Israel (Jacob)? And if Israel is the elect, why did most of them perish before they reached the promised land and later, in the exile? It is a clear case that election is conditional on faith and obedience not unconditional election! I am Jewish descent, but I cannot be saved without obeying the gospel of God. After, all that's what the Bible teaches. I wish I was elected like you stated but I cannot be UNTIL I respond to the Gospel.. Regarding fairness of God? Consider James 2 and the immutabilty of God. Also, if God elects people to salvation, then why are we preaching the gospel to the lost? Why did Jesus come to seek and save the lost, if God is already at work in electing people. Also, a man cannot and should not believe himself to be better than others if he chooses Christ as you stated. If the be-attitudes are lacking, there is no salvation. Further, salvation is ONLY granted in response to the gospel (Rom. 1:16). Jesus commanded that the gospel be preached (Matt. 28:18-20). He commanded repentance (Luke 24:47) and He commanded baptism (Mark 16:15-16). All of these were demonstrated on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:36-38) and cannot be any different today. Now I also know the Calvinists are emphatic that baptism is a work and does not save....and correct they are! It is God who saves. Belief, repentance and baptism is the response to God's invitation of salvation. Now here's, a question: If one wants to accept Jesus Christ in faith and obedience, is God going to reject him because he isn't elected? Now I know what you are going to say: He is elected, right? How convenient! My suggestion to you Mark, is that you exegete every case where the term elect is used (without a Calvinistic bias) contextually, and you will be surprised at the results God will provide you. For example in 1 Thess. 1:4-5, Paul says that election came through the gospel. I also like to know your response to those born into Atheist, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist and heathen families who die without knowing Jesus and His gospel. Have a blessed day.
- I am just now ordering these books and then I saw your response to the author. We had friends who pushed Calvinixm so strongly we had to change our friendship into a casual wave and hello. You asked some pretty interesting questions. I will be checking back to see if you get responses.
- Joshua, I see much anger in this response, I hope to clarify a few things. I just wanted to say that this post is arguing against misconceptions of Calvinism...no true Calvinist would disagree with what you said here: "Further, salvation is ONLY granted in response to the gospel (Rom. 1:16). Jesus commanded that the gospel be preached (Matt. 28:18-20). He commanded repentance (Luke 24:47) and He commanded baptism (Mark 16:15-16). All of these were demonstrated on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:36-38) and cannot be any different today." Election is not random. It is simply those who believe that have been elected - their belief proves their election. No one that repents and believes is cast out of heaven, we must take all verses into account. If you want to know what Calvinism is really about, then try picking up "Chosen by God" by R.C. Sproul. He gives a pretty simple account of the basic doctrines. Lastly, if you decide that Calvinism makes God seem less loving, then I say don't believe it. It is not a primary gospel issue, but let us go and spread the gospel with the world together! In Christ Alone, Josh
- "With Logos 6, learning to read and write Hebrew is easier than ever! This new interactive tool shows you how to write and pronounce Hebrew words, and is perfect for anyone wanting to master the original languages." Does anyone see something wrong or deceiving with this description...especially when there is no audio pronunciations of the Hebrew? Logos, please be true to your advertisements and honour them. Thanks!
- When Logos sells a product they should tell us how to use it - free of charge! No use buying a product without the knowledge on how to use it. Its futile. In fact that should be one of the selling features - "How to use it." Instead we are compelled to spend all that money for what we require and then over and above still pay for products on how to use it! I think Logos/Faithlife can do better for its customers.
- I agree, this should be part of the package. All other items you buy comes with an instruction manual.
- This statement seems so unfair. Logos six has numerous videos on YouTube and on Logos Pro that teaches how to use the program. The free content Logos has provided over the years on how to use their program is more than enough to learn to efficiently use the program. And we have a very powerful brain that God has given us, we can certainly explore and discover the rest.
- Kevin, when I wrote this, Logos had not made what we have now available then.
