- While this is a great resource for all Christians, this is a vital work for anyone involved in pastoral ministry. Given the statistics, we encounter those affected by trauma every day, and this book gives voice to their perspective. Harrower provides a solid framework from which to understand and discuss trauma. His definitions are incredibly helpful. Harrower's 'horror reading' of Matthew was fascinating and really important to help understand the effects of trauma. I definitely recommend pairing this book with Harrower's other works for a more complete understanding of trauma, and how to address it within the Church.
- Really helpful commentary! This commentary is a one volume work covering the entire canon, so it is usually offers concise, but insightful treatments. The commentators often point out cultural aspects that I miss, and thus help me get more out of the text. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a solid one-volume commentary.
- This is an amazing library. It includes a great mixture of theologically sound commentaries, with an assortment of worthwhile spiritual aids. The Bonhoeffer set is truly a highpoint of this library, but I have come to really enjoy all of it's resources. Schaff's work on the creeds, and the Early Church Fathers sets are tremendously beneficial. I find the Logos versions of these resources more helpful because the texts are linked back to the Biblical passages (sometimes to other resources as well), and I can take notes (that I can later search). Definitely a worthy investment.
- This is a great resource that contains many important works from the early church. Aside from a few translator notes, this is just the writing from the early church. Because they were translated more than a century ago, the language is a bit dated, but still very readable. The Logos version is really helpful because it links to the Biblical texts, which is important for academic, devotional, and pastoral uses.
- Matthews' work is incredibly helpful for all preachers! This is a very well written book that enables preachers to better understand and speak to the women in their congregations. Matthews gave me a new perspective that will help me better communicate God's Word. This is a highly relevant, deeply insightful, and well written book. I highly recommend it to anyone in a preaching/ public speaking ministry!
- Well reasoned and well written, Brown's book is a great read. He describes what roles of the priest and bishop from a historical perspective, but with an eye on the present. He focuses on the Roman Catholic Church, but his analysis is equally insightful to all traditions with an episcopate and those who are curious about it.
