- It appears that "Sermon Archives" has to be one of the worst described resources or most lacking in its description that Logos offers. Nowhere and in no place is it listed what these actually are... Are they audio files? Are they video files? Are they manuscripts? So much is taken for granted here! This is what happens when you have so much product; you start to fall down on the details. As well, someone asked the question in 2019!!!! Nearly three years ago and there is not ever been even one response from Logos. Products galore with tons of money involved ($$$$$) but service? Come on Logos. You can do better.
- I can confirm that these are sermon manuscripts. I am asking our team to improve these product descriptions. Sorry for the ambiguity.
- It is in the product description. Under "resource type" it says "monograph." The definition of monograph is "a detailed written study of a single specialized subject or an aspect of it." Therefore it would be literature, not audio or video.
- Lee. I've answered your questions in this review: https://faithlife.com/reviews/415822 These are text files, not audio files, and they are searchable. Like other text resources, you can do specific word and phrase searches in the "basic" tab of your Logos search, by selecting "Sermons from John Piper" in the search "in" options. It will then show a list of every occurrence of that word or phrase in the resource. You can also search using, e.g.,"mytag:piper", if you set up a tag for the resources. This comes in three sets (1980 - 1989, 1990 - 1999, and 2000 - 2014). If you have any other questions, let me know, and I'll try to give you an answer.
- Just finished the first session... great content... solid as a rock, Sam Storms. Just disappointed that the video controls provided by Logos are so lacking. No ability to play at a faster (or slower speed) which is now standard given the pace of our lives. Also, no easy 15 seconds back or forward controls (so helpful!). Also, the control for play and pause is so small, which makes it difficult to start and stop easily while taking notes... which brings up another sad reality... no subtitles so helpful given different speaking styles, pronunciation, etc., not to mention helpful, again, when taking notes. So it's great that you major in the majors but it sometimes leaves the little things of the program so wanting... that is, things we use everyday! So great content...a solid 5; but only 1.5 out of 5 for the video player... Logos, you guys can do so much better!
- Ok, so I generally enjoy mystics (as John was, born Juan del Yepes) but I'm also very leary of them because I seek accurate biblical truth or biblical theology above all... but this is very powerful and thought provoking. I especially enjoyed chapter 2 on pride. Only listened to 5 of the chapters so far but wasn't expecting this to be as good as it is... It just would be really nice to know what book version is being read (there are many) so as to follow along with the audio reading (this helps also with considering what is true and might not be). I found a free online version but the content is not exactly the same. Another area that Logos could improve and even sell a few books, providing the companion book with the audio or at least offering it. You should be aware of what most consider was an influence by "pseudo-Dionysius" thinking upon John's writing. According to pseudo-Dionysius, God is better characterized and approached by negations than by affirmations. All names and theological representations must be negated. According to pseudo-Dionysius, when all names are negated, "divine silence, darkness, and unknowing" will follow. To me, this is disconcerting. That said, a good bible student would enjoy this and should not be led astray.
- Where are the feature set resources? Especially the datasets and features? I don't really want Logos suggestions on content ... I want what will make Logos function as its supposed to... why can't you sell me these datasets and features separately... or better yet, include them in the program so it actually does what it's supposed to. I'm honestly tired of being sucked into buying more content that i don't need or want ... all in the hope that the program will serve my studies.
- , the precise datasets and features of this base package from several years back are no longer available, however, they are included in comparable Logos 9 base packages - and (I believe unlike L5 days) those features and datasets (plus a very small set of resources necessary to use them) are available on their own, without a library purchase. Look at https://www.logos.com/product/195568/logos-9-bronze-feature-upgrade and such products.
