This book is a treasure. I have the privilege of reviewing it for my church's newsletter, and will be giving it a stellar commentary. It's the kind of thing that you can slowly read with someone who is hurting.

This is an excellent gift to god's people. Robert Preus gives an excellent overview of the history of Lutheran doctrine and practice at another turbulent time. His love for history shows on every page. However, if you want a light and quick read, they should probably not be your first choice. It is "densely" written. Reading this book required free when referring to GOD'S WORD, an English dictionary, and Greek, Hebrew , Latin lexicons. It took me somewhere between 15-45 minutes per page. It was also worth the effort.
